word quitting unexpectedly

all of the other office programs are working on my powerbook g4 except
word, i have updated everything, and also repaired disk permissions,
it was working fine a few days ago and nothing unexpected happened, i
just cannot open word anymore.

i am running it on osx. any other hints.

I just installed Panther and Word is back to crashing on startup
again.

However the good news is that under Panther TextEdit opens .doc
documents rather nicely. I've set it as the default to open Word
documents and have no more worries.
