I observed the same "virus scan" message when opening Word03 on two
different machines w/ two different AVs and firewalls (SystemSuite and
Panda). Both firewalls reported that Word was trying to contact the
Internet, and the delays started (on both machines) only after I denied
Word's access request. Could good ol' MS be trying to sneak out to the Web
again and causing the delays by repeated access requests that are denied?
I've hunted through Word's options and could find nothing about Internet
access, but it is clear that the Word attempts to do so.
