Word "Save As" Lockup (Word XP, and Word 2003)

I use Windows XP Professional, and Office XP. If I
receive a Word file by Email, open the file in Word then
attempt to "Save As" and choose another drive by clicking
the down arrow in the open area at the top of the dialog
box where it says "Save in:", Word locks up every time.

If I open a file that does not come from email everything
works as it is supposed to.

My attempts to fix this are as follows:
1) Deleted all the temporary directories and files where
email attachments begin life and let XP recreate them -
Result - no change

2) Dowloaded and installed all updates for both WinXP
and Office XP - Result - no change

3) Uninstalled XP, purchased Office 2003, installed,
tried it out - Result - no change.

Again, this ONLY happens when opening an attached file
from an email that begins life in one of those
cryptically named folders for temporary files.

Any light anyone can shed would be appreciated.

Terry

Much simpler. From within your email program, save the attachment to "My
Documents" or some other appropriate folder. When you open it directly from
the email it is opening in a temporary document space.

Yes, I realize that is an option as is saving to the same
drive I am on then resaving to where I want it. But it
seems to me that the money I spend on software with this
company, I should be able to simply save to the drive I
want to directly without having to remember that there is
one additional step to keep Word from locking up and
having to restart.

Thanks for the response.
