Word slow to open when net connection is present

I got a strange problem. when connected to the internet (via phone line or
lan) my ms word takes forever to boot up. I just double click a document
and it takes forever to load. When not logged on however it is just fine.
I took everything out of my startup and did barebones and all that nice
stuff. i removed and reinstalled office xp. I did all the updates. still
back to the same problem. I just recently put two and two together and
found out that this only happens when I'm on the internet. Any ideas?

That would be Billy Gates digging around looking for stuff that shouldn't be
on your computer.
