Word slow to start

Hi All,

I have a problem with one PC (W2K + Office2k). When Word
starts it is very slow to load, if I load word using the
command line switch /a, it loads perfect, so i destroy the
normal.dot, Word then start perfect the first time. I
close it and it saves the Normal.dot then the next time it
loads very very slowly again. Also removed the 'DATA'
subkey in regedit and combinations of the above

Tried a reinstall, removing the templates after the
uninstall just in case, but to no avail.

End of the road for me, hopefully someone knows the cause
of this (without me having to rebuild the PC)

TIA bob

Assuming that you don't use NAV, try the following FAQ for help finding your
problem:

I assume you've tried the previous NAV solution suggested in previous
posts?

You know it makes sense.

Hi Bob -

I have been having this same problem for 18 hours. With
Excel also. After much effort I finally called Microsoft
and paid my $35 - but they gave me a fix which works
perfectly. I am assuming you have XP.

1. Search for officeav.dll
2. In my case I found it within Norton Antivirus.
Change the name to officeav.old
3. Search > Run > %appdata%
4. If you find icons named Normal (I found two of them),
delete them
5. Start > Run > winword.exe /safe (note the space
afte exe)
6. This will open Word in Safe Mode. In my case it
reconfigured all the Office programs and I had to put in
the Office XP Professional disk.

After the reconfiguration, everything worked perfectly.

Let me know of it works for you. I am at
[email protected].

There is a problem with Norton Antivirus and Verisign security. Go to Norton.com - support to read about it.
