Word startup does reinstall

Tom

When I start Word (2000) it goes through what looks like an install process. It first indicates that it is preparing to install (a Windows Installer message) then says to please wait while it configures Office 2000 Pro. It isn't a full install of course because the master CD is not mounted, so it appears to be doing some sort of configuration work

I've gone back and done a setup/repair and even a setup deinstall-reinstall but I still get this confuguration message when first starting Word. It happens every time I start Word

Appreciate any hel

Do you have an Office App installed from a previous or later version that
Office 2000? Say Outlook XP?

No, I was concerned that you had a completely different version. When you
installed the Pro version, were you logged in as an Administrator? Office
2000 was very fussy about that. If someone without full Admin permissions
installs Office 2000, rather strange events occur.

Terry

: Yes I do have an older version. Actually, what was on the machine was
Office 2000. I replaced it with Office 2000 Pro.
:
: Is there a cleanup I need to do?

This is my own personal computer so there is no accounting structure (that I'm aware of)

The common reason for what you are experiencing is that you have say Outlook
2003 and Office 2000 and it is the mixed environment making Windows
re-establish the version each time your switch. However, that doesn't seem
to be the case with you.

I guess that the installed has become confused on your system. At the
Microsoft support site you will find a utility for cleaning up the
installer.

Thanks for your help

What's a little strange is that this only happens with Word. All other Office applications that came from the same CD and were installed at the same time run normally
