Word stops responding on "Save"

Hi all,

I'm having this strange problem with Word 2002 running on
XP Pro SP1.

Everytime I try to save a document word pops up an hour
glass that stays there and word stops responding. The only
way to get rid of the hour glass is to kill the process.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any
workarounds, comments are appreciated.

My problem may be related but not the same. I don't have a solution either.

From time to time one of my word docs becomes corrupted and when I try to
save it, Word keeps saving and saving until the target drive fills up. It
just happened to a 1meg file. It seems corrupt in seveal areas. The only
sure way of saving it is to copy it to a new file as unformatted text.

Other files are fine though.

First try starting Word using the /a switch. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.

No ideas yet. I've tried the reinstall option and i'm
still facing the same problem. I'll keep troubleshooting
and update the post with my findings.

I have turned off Norton Anti Virus office plug in. I have reinstalled windows. I can open files but when i try to save as only the first letter of what i type is saved as a file name. the file is empty and word shuts down.

This is a symptom that you are running the applications in Windows 98
Compatibility mode.
