Word takes TOO LONG to load

Why is it that Word takes several minutes to load? We are using Norton
Antivirus - could that be a problem?

I went to the link below. I went to start, run and typed in winword.exe /a.
I can get in really fast but when I go to open a document, it hangs up. It
has something to do with scanning the file for viruses before I open it. I
also deleted Norton Virus scan and it's still doing this.

I also deleted the startup items for word/

Anymore suggestions?

Deleting NAV is overkill; disabling its Office Plug-in will suffice. At this
point, you may have shot yourself in the foot if the .dll is still
registered.
