Word templates and UNC paths - changing servers

The problem is that I have Word templates stored on a UNC path. The
server was decommissioned, and the templates and docs copied to the new
server. On the new server, the docs take almost a minute to open. If
I fire up the old server, the docs on the *new* server open as expected
-- as if the templates are still somehow tied to the old server.

The post linked above references a patch from Microsoft. I can't find
a KB article for this and PSS won't help me unless I have a KB number.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
