Word Text Boxes won't display

In Word 2003 text boxes will no longer display when viewing the document.
This feature had worked previously. I have checked the settings I know about
and can not find anything that would switch this on and off. Any suggestions
will be appreciated.

Paul,
Have you checked Tools - options - view tab - in the one but last section is
the box for drawings checked?
