I read multiple posts on this issue today and they all pointed you
back to having been infected by the blaster virus. However, in my case
I never was, nor were my co-workers. We have had no trace of the virus
prior to or after this occurring. In fact, we didn't even start seeing
the problem until after we proactively applied the patches from
Microsoft.
In our case, what we have seen is that the user that first logged on
to the computer after the patch was applied, through a profile, would
be affected by the error listed above, however, other users that would
log on to the same computer and go into Word would be unaffected by
this message. Therefore, I attribute some of the problem to something
being messed up with the users profile right after the patch was
applied. In fact, to test this out, I deleted my profile and logged
back on, started Word, everything worked fine.
If you try this, please remember to save all of your info under
"c:\documents and settings\youruserid" as it will be deleted when you
delete your profile. Then you can move it back after you log back in
This article from Microsoft explains how to do it.

I hope this provides another avenue for you who have not been able to
fix this problem using the info from the other posts.
