A client has asked me to save my 400-page Word document as an XML file. My
links to numerous JPGs broke when I saved the document to XML and I had to
reinsert each link, which took about 3 hours. This is my first experience
with saving Word documents in XML format. Is there an easy solution to this
problem?

Hi Debra,

What version of Word from which Office suite edition and were these embedded graphics or linked or ???

What are the steps you're using and do you get the same result in a new document if you insert a single graphic then repeat the
steps?

Sorry I didn't include enough information the first time. I am using
Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.6359.6360) SPI, Part of Micorsoft Office
Small Business Edition 2003.

My graphics files were linked, not embedded. In my original Word document,
I placed the JPGs by selecting Insert>Picture>From File> and then selected
Insert>Link as File. The graphics appeared until I saved the document as an
XML file.

I started a new Word test document, inserted 4 graphics links the same way,
saved the document as an XML file, and it displayed the graphics just fine.

Thanks much for your help.

Hi,

Yes. . The HTML file would work fine on your system, assuming that the
images are linked from your local machine. But all the paths have to be
redifened according to client required path - Absolute or relative to his
server address.

It is recommeded that all images are relative to the same folder. So that
fixing the path becomes easier.

The copies of my document go to various clients who save the files to
various directories. How do I create my links so they stay intact no matter
where they are saved?

Thank you,
Debra
