Word top menu script icon lingering onscreen after quitting

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi,
Since the last upgrade, the little script menu icon sticks around for a few moments after I quit Word, and it takes longer to quit.

Any thoughts about this and how to fix it?

You didn't give your update versions so all we can say is "check everything
is fully updated"

And OS 10? That needs to be at 10.6.2.

If both are up-to-date, then is it possible that a script is being called as
part of shut-down?
