Word -Under Format/ Columns default is 2 instead of 1?

Microsoft Word - Couldn't type past page 1 and move to page 2 until i clicked
on Format\ Columns and changed Two to One. On new typing the default seems to
revert to Two. How do I make default One.

Open the Normal template
(http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm)
and set the number of columns to 1 there.
