Word uses most of my CPU

I use Office 97 with Win NT. After a while of using word the computers
becomes very slow. if I look at the task manager it shows that word is using
90 or 95 % of the CPU.

I scanned with an updated AV and a spyware removal tool and found nothing.

Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this nuissance?
