Actually Word has the active connectors for use in
Block diagrams, but they're only active if you use
Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing and work within the framework
of the drawing canvas.
You can 'animate' block diagrams (show flow motions) in Powerpoint
and do more visual enhancements more easily, but for tradeoffs
it would matter somewhat what your goals and requirements are.
MS Office Visio can produce flow chart features that would be
harder to accomplish in either Powerpoint or Word, for example.

What are the tradeoffs between making block diagrams in Word vs. Powerpoint.
I know Powerpoint has connectors in the AutoShapes and Word does not but
Word has Grid on the Drawing menu and Powerpoint does not.
Any advice?
