Word will not open unless I have my network cable attached

If I have the cable attached Word opens and works fine.
I can then remove the connection and it works fine.
However, if I try to open Word without the cable, I
get "word han incountered a problem and must close"
message.

I'm running XPhe on a Compaq 2170
and XPoffice.
All other programs work perfectly.

Make sure your printer driver is installed locally, and not over the
network.
