Word will not open

I have Office 2003 Pro installed on my laptop (XP Home,SP2, etc.). All
apllications open without a problem but Word hangs and I have to end
the application. However, within Outlook it opens quickly and without
problems as my email editor; it also opens without a hitch in my OCR
scanning application. On its own it will not open. I have installed
WordPerfect to do my basic word processing work to circumvent this
problem.

Any suggestions?
