Hi,
I have a picture in bmp format that I wish to be able to import to my word
document. My Word (2003, XP) has, of course, graphic filters including one
for bmp format, and when I try to import it in my docu, it open a "Convert
File" window and prompts me to choose a file format. I choose "Windows
bitmap" and ok, then shows " An error occurred while importing this file.
....".
While I was figuring out this or that way, I opened "Windows Picture and Fax
viewer" or "Windows office picture manager" and load this file (A) and saved
it as a bit map file (B), and then I tried again to import it in Word docu,
and Success!. My question is why this bmp picture is not imported in Word or
Power Point, while "Windows Picture and Fax viewer" or "Windows office
picture manager", which are two of MS Office family programs, is able to
recognize it.
I am aware that there are several different variants of bmp formats, so(1) I
am wondering if this is caused by a low level of tolerance of Word, or (2)
there is something in MS Word concerning file security or registration issue
(the original bmp was created by my raster scanning program). (3) If this
question is not relevent, then please give me some direction.

Thanks in advance,

Sydney,

It sounds as if you're trying to open the file or insert it using Insert |
File. Instead use Insert | Picture | From File.

Maybe not.
I am clicking Insert | Picture | From File....
If I did as you suggested, then I should have gotten the same results for
both A (the original one) and B (resave by of "Windows Picture and Fax
viewer" or "Windows office picture manager").
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.
