Word won't launch

Do you know what might be causing the following error?

Word 2000 will not launch and the computer freezes when
the Word icon is double-clicked and when the program is
selected from the program menu. After pressing <ctl-alt-
del> to close the program, a message is displayed
indicating Winword cannot open because there are
insufficient computer resources; however, no other
programs are running (besides system programs). Once
closed, the same error is displayed when attempting to
open any other program. After restarting, all other
programs operate normally, except Word has the same
problem.

I have reinstalled Word 2000 and reinstalled all the
service update packs from Microsoft. And I have run Norton
Antivirus with no viruses found. The same error still
occurs.

Can you help?!

HELP! I also am having this problem, as are several friends. Mine seemed to begin when I received an e-mail from a friend with a Word document attached (Yes, I am running Norton Antivirus and keeping it updated). When I attempted to open it, it wouldn't come up, so I deleted the e-mail, but shortly afterward I attempted to open Word from the Office 2000 suite and had exactly the problem described by "dalyr". What the heck is going on and what's the fix?????????

AH-HA!!!!!!!! After posting the above, I went to the web site that Suzanne Barnhill was kind enough to provide in the message above, and VOILA, following the directions VERY CAREFULLY about the /a switch and then deleting and recreating the corrupt registry values (had to delete the "Data" key itself), I finally got Word to behave itself and open as it should! Thanks a BUNCH, Suzanne!
