Word won't launch

All of the sudden, Word won't launch. Whether I try to
launch it from the shortcut on my desktop, through a .doc
file, or from the startup menu, it won't launch. It can
get as far as opening a document1 without any menu bars
when it says that it encountered an unexpected error and
asks me if I want to send an error report. I have
restarted my computer, shut it down and restarted it, and
defragged my computer (I don't know what could have
helped, but I tried what I knew). Please help me! I am
applying for jobs and need this program!!!!! I have
Windows XP and MS Word 2000 (I think, though I am not
sure because I can't start it!!!!). HELP!!!!

Search for winword.exe double click on that. if that
doesn't work then:
-have you installed any sevice packs for XP? I think
there are two now. If not then I would try that.
-also see if there are service packs for your version of
office and/or word
