word won't open -winword error

I have word 2000 and it recently just crashed. I can't
open it at all. When I click on word icon it gives me a
winword error- this problem has performed an illegal
operation and will shut down. I have tried to reinstall
the software and rebooting the system but I have had no
luck. I also ran norton to check for errors on the system
but it didn't help. Does anyone have any advise out
there. I don't know what to do.
