Word Won't Open

When I click on Word, I get the blue Office Word 2000 rectangle and then my computer freezes. I have uninstalled Microsoft Works Suite 2001 and reinstalled and have the same trouble. Uninstalled againa nd tried loading Office 2000 and still get a frozen computer. Please help- all of my Graduate Research is on my computer!!!

After reading more posts, I found what I think was wrong and hopefully I have fixed my own problem. If not, I'll be sure to come back here.
