Word X backup copies no longer working correctly

M

mactechservices

On a G4 running X.4.8, and Word X, when I use the automatic backup of
file (save preference) it makes one copy. When I attempt to open the
document and make the second, I do not get copy 1 backed up. In fact I
do not have any file. Last year it used to keep making copies and
numbering them.

Has anyone else seen this? Do you think this a Finder setting or a
Word setting?

Example: I have a document (Test), when I open it, make changes and
hit save it makes the (Backup Test) and saves Test. When I do it
again I expect to see (Backup Test copy 1, and Backup Test) and so on
as the numbers increment. This does not happen, although it used to.

No, you should get "Backup of File name.doc"

The Word "Always Make Backup" preference saves only the penultimate copy:
one only.

Cheers
