Word XP closes while checking calendar in Outlook

Word XP closes without any error message or warning while
working in Outlook. User usually has 2 Word documents open
and then checks their Outlook calendar, then all the Word
sessions closeout. When they reopen Word, they have to go
through the document recovery steps. I don't think it is a
memory issue because the documents are only a couple of
pages.

Configuration:
Dell Optiplex GX260 P4 2.0 GHz 256MB RAM
OS - Windows 2000 Pro SP4
Office 2002 Professional SP2

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot
this problem?

This may be related to a very weird bug with handwriting recognition. You
need to turn this off from the Control Panel, Regional and Language settings
tab.
