Word XP crashes hangs when I try to insert a picture from a file

get the WD2002: Word Has Encountered a Problem and Needs
to Close get option to auto recover and send report. Have
applied all the updates the page sends me too, have
repaired word, cannot figure it out. The other insert
functions work fine. I looked at tghe tech report and it
says Appname winword.exe Appver10.0.4219.0 ModName :
comctl32 Mod ver5.82.2800.1106 Offset 0005e95e

then gives the text about reporting etc.
