word xp does not register

When opening word documents (Windows XP Pro sp2, Office XP sp3), I get the
following message: "This document could not be registered. It will not be
possible to create links from other documents to this document."
Otherwise, it seems everything else functions normally, I am however
concerned something could go wrong with my docs in the future.
Does anyone know what could cause this, or what should be done to remedy
this?
Thanks in advance,

You might try reregistering the program. At the Start | Run prompt, type

winword /r

then press Enter (note that there is a space before the forward slash). Word
will not start, and it may appear that nothing has happened (or you may get
a message box). If this method does not work, see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm for another method.

Thank you, Suzanne,
I did as you suggested.
The windows installer appeared for a few seconds, then went away.
Sorry to say, nothing changed. The link you provided gave the same advice as
you did.
Thanks all the same.
Any other ideas?

I started to suggest that until he said he wasn't having any problem
pasting.

This is also a symptom of the Blaster virus. Take a look at

Turn the *DCOM Server Process Launcher* back on.

Quick way to do it is click the "start" button, then "run", then in th
dialogue box type:

net start "DCOM Server Process Launcher"

Of course, if you've disabled the service, you'll need to go in
administrative tools in the control panel, open up services, and set i
on either automatic, or manual, and start it whenever you want to us
