word xp won't open doc by double click on names

Word in office xp won't open a document unless you use
file open. If you double click the file name it opens a
blank doc.
Any ideas?

Try reregistering Word by opening Start, Run and typing in

winword /r

and pressing OK. This will reregister Word in Windows and should restore the
correct file associations.
