word xp won't open docx file

trying to open a document file type docx first time dealing with this type
of file. currently using Office XP and word can not open message says I need
a converter to open this file. can any help with this.

you need the compatibility pack. download and install from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en.

Read carefully. Looks like there's a Critical Update to apply to Office XP
before installing this.
