word2003 Slow responce across a network drive

We have been experiencing a problem, in that Word 2003 is
5 time slower accessing any *.doc's over a network
connection, than Word2000. This problem appears to be
consistent as we have been able to reproduce the issue on
a number of representative hardware and O/S situations.

Two examples are:-

XP Pro workstation running Office SBE 2003 accessing files
on a SBS2003 Server, 5 time slower that XP Pro workstation
running Office 2000 talking to the same SBS Server.

XP Pro Workstation running Office SBE 2003 accessing files
on a work grouped Windows 2000 Workstation, 5 time slower
than XP Pro workstation running Office 2000 to that same
files.

Anybody out there had this problem or know how to resolve
it. It's becoming almost impossible to work with it.

I have the same problem. Word documents located on
network drives are taking over a minute to open on brand
new Dell systems (OS: XP Pro, Office: 2003). If the
document is copied from the network drive to the local C:
drive it opens normally. The only "fix" that sounds like
the problem we are having is:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;833041 "Office
2003 program is slow or may appear to stop responding
(hang) when you
open a file from a network location"

I edited the registry as stated in the kb article, but
that did not correct the problem.

If it helps it seems it is only happening to documents
that have forms built into them... plain text documents
open fine across the network.
