Word97 memory could not be read

I get an application erro whenever open word 97(SR-2):
The instruction at "0x30791c00" referenced memory
at "0x00000406". The memory could not be "read".
click on OK to terminate the program
cick on cancel to debug the program

I am in the local admins group.
I have the most up-to-date SPs and hot fixes. Mcafee scan
doesn't find any virus on my computer.
