Word97 Save as HTML Functionality in Newer Versions of Word

We have a consultant-written application that uses the "Save as HTML"
functionality in Microsoft Word 97. The resultant HTML pages are then
processed through a few VB functions, pulling out special user-defined
codes, and updating a back-end Oracle database.

The problem we are having is this...newer versions of Microsoft Word
have newer, better ways of saving files as HTML. Unfortunately these
files, when processed as explained above, cause the application to bomb
because there format of the HTML file has changed from the Word97
version. These newer versions include a lot of CSS and Word-specific
HTML codes that the developer of the original application never
expected. The 97 version is very basic, very simple HTML. No other
"stuff".

The question is this...is there a way to produce a 'Word97-like' HTML
file from newer versions of Word? I've messed with the Web Options
(under the General tab of the Options window), but have never been able
to get the Word97 results we're looking for.

Can anyone point me in the direction of something that will help???
We're keeping Word 97 installed on a few PC's for this specific reason,
and would like to do away with it. Rewriting the application is
another option, but one that would take considerably more time and
money to implement. We're hoping for something easier at the moment.

Thanks!

Dan
