Does anyone know why word documents (.doc) copied to my PC but created in an
earlier version (I believe it was Word 98) are opening with Wordpad instead
of Word? I have Windows XP Pro Media Edition with Word 2002

Right-click on Start, highlight Explore, and left-click on it. On the
menu, choose Tools and click on Folder options. Select File Types, in
the Extensions column find doc, then look at the program it's linked to.

The above instructions are for W2000. XP might be different.

Thanks Ray, for some reason .DOC was not there, although I've never had a
problem with .doc files that I've created or have had emailed to me. The
extension there was DOCHTML???? I added DOC and associated it with Word and
all now seems to be well.
