Words Misformatted in Justified Text

In Word 2003 (and other versions perhaps) it can happen
that an attempt to justify a piece of text so that right
and left margins are aligned will produce random spacing
errors, so that, for example 'the needs of mass democracy'
appears as 't he needs o f mass d emocracy'

This fault only seems to affect occasional lines. The
majority format correctly.

Does anybody know how this is caused? Knowledgebase (as
far as I can tell) does not deal with this.

I've seen this only on HP printers, whose drivers seem to have trouble with
justification. If that's the case for you, visit the HP web site and look
for an updated driver for your model -- possibly one of the "beta" versions.
If you have another brand, check with its manufacturer.

Turn on show/hide which will show any spurious spaces. If you have any
spurious spaces justifying across the page will only add further blank (and
annoying space).
