Work File and Temp Environment Error

Don Green

When I go to attach a word document to anything on the web, I get a
dialogue box that says:

"Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment
variable."

The Word file seems to attach anyway, but I get this error a lot.

I Googled the error and found a Microsoft document where there were
some instructions on fixing the Registry, but they didn't say exactly
what to do. I couldn't really understand the instructions.

I can follow instructions and I can fix the registry, I just need to
understand exactly what to change. Can anyone help with some clear,
easy to understand directions on what to fix?

Thanks!

This is te exact article I'd already seen.
I'm using Windows 7, with Word 2007 and there are no instructions
there for Win 7.

Either way, it doesn't say which registry keys to delete or change.

The part of the article that deals with deleting a registry key (it's
only one key) does not depend on what version of Windows you have,
only on the version of Office. And it does say what to delete
(although it's badly obscured by the details for all the other
versions): for Word 2007, delete the Data key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

Don't bother deleting the Options key, because it has no bearing on
your problem.

OK, well, I went ahead and deleted the Registry key and it didn't
help. I'd love to get this resolved.
