work for resource in summary tasks.

Craig

I like to use the resource and task usage views, but for the resource view it
does not roll up the resource work for each summary task. We have to put
together several design packages and each design package has a WBS of 1.1,
1.2 1.3 ... etc. I want to be able to see what the costs or work is for each
of the level two tasks ( or in this case design package). The only way I can
do it now is to manually sum up the resource usage view for each summary
task. I would think you should have the option to show the summary tasks
also...

Thanks,

Hello Craig,

If I understand your post correctly, you have several options:

Add the Task Summary Name field to the Resource Usage view. This
will provide a method of seeing the summary information for each
assignment.

Create a custom group in the Resource Usage view. Group first by
Name (resource field) and then by Task Summary Name (assignment
field). This will still keep the resource information together but
provide summary for resources as well as the summary level data for
each group of assignments.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Both the Task Usage view and the Work and Cost tables in the Gantt chart
view show rollups to the summary level but the Resource Usage view does not.
IF I understand your post, either of those views should be giving you what
you say you want, total hours and/or total costs broken down by WBS level.
The Work and Cost tables show the total while the Usage view shows the
distribution over time.

If you want to see it by WBS, try inserting the WBS column into the Task
Usage View and doing a custom grouping on that field.

JulieS,

Thanks for the responce. What you describe is exactly what I want to do,
that is to add the summary tasdk to the resource usage view. hopefully it
will show the summed up resource costs/work for that summary task.

However I have not been able to figgure out how to add the summary task to
the view. If I go to view/more views/resource usage/edit it does have a
place to add the summary tasks and in the resource usage view it will not
allow me to manually add a row with the wbs or resource name.

Any guidance would be appriciated. It is probably something simple that I
don't see.

Thanks craig

Steve,

What I am looking for is each resource work/cost per summary task. I have
not been able to see what each resource is allocating to each summary task.
This may sound trivial but with several different design projects going on in
the same plan, I need verify that I have the cost/work for each resource
allocated correctly other than over the entire project plan.

Thanks
Craig

Hello Craig,

Display the resource usage view. Click on one of the column
headings in the left side. From the menu choose Insert > Column.
Select Task Summary Name from the field list. The field will appear
as an additional column.

You may then create a custom Group (Project > Group By, More Groups,
New) and group first by Name (Resource field) and then by Task
Summary Name (Assignment field).
