Work on a Project Server file remotely

I am a bit confused about a Project Server schedule being worked on remotely
- I know a file can be saved 'offline', then the user can connect 'offline',
update the plan and re-save - but I want to save the file to the local ('C')
drive, work on it when there is no connection to Project Server, then
re-connect and merge the file back to project server - can this be done?

Working with the file in Offline mode is precisely what you want to do.
When you save a project using File - Save Offline, the system writes a copy
of the project on your C: drive. While away from your corporate network,
you launch Project Professional, use your regular Project Server login
account, but click the Work Offline button. When you click File - Open, you
will see the file. Later, when you are connected to your corporate network,
you can open the project again using File - Open and then click File - Save
Online. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale

Thanks for the reply - but the problem I have is that when I save a plan
offline, then exit Project Server, I open Project Professional (with or
without removing my network cable) and when I try to select my normal PS
account the 'work offline' option becomes unavailable .. so I can't see how I
can manipulate the file unless I have the connection to Project Server ...

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how this could happen. There is no
permission that controls the Work Offline feature. What version of Project
Server are you using?

Hi Dale

MS Project 2003 - the app is accessed via a Citrix client - other than that
I am not sure what the problme could be

Thanks for that Gary - I guess it is time to look at Plan 'B' (whatever that
is) for remote users!
