I am considering moving seriously into OneNote (away from UltraRecall). In
my workflow, I plan to embed files (word docs, pdfs, etc.) into a Onenote
page. I have, however, a few questions about this:
1. Indexing.
Currently, embedded files are not at all indexed (besides filename) for
search (under WDS). Various MS blogs explained that this couldn't be
finished for this release. How likely will the next release of 1N will index
the contents of files embedded in 1N? What time frame do you expect? (I
ask b/c if indexing is unlikely, I am less inclined to embed versus just
leave within file folders.)
2. Stability
Independet of indexing, does anyone have any experience or thoughts about
how wise it is to embed files regularly into 1N pages? What are the chances
of data loss / corruption, as compared to the regular OS file folders? Are
there strong reasons to keep files within the standard OS structure (e.g.,
leveraging volume shadow copy?)
As you can see, I'm considering using 1N pages as almost a supplement file
system. I'm planning to hyperlink 1N pages intensively with Mindmanager
mindmaps, which I use as a sort of project management console.
Any reactions or thoughts? Thanks in advance.
