Hi.
When I try to open an exisitng database I get a message telling me the
user doesn't have permissions for the object, and the "object" listed is
the System.mdw (workgroup file). I have checked filesystem permissions,
and they are OK.
If I try to use the workgroup administrator (Tools->Security->Workgroup
Administrator)
* to join the exisitng workgroup (system.mdw) copied from another computer
it says successfully joined and then when I try to open the "User and
groups accounts" I get the following error message "Reserved error
(-5100); there is no message for this error." 5 times and then the
interface comes up blank and I can't do anything.
* to create a new workgroup file I get the following message: "Workgroup
Administrator couldn't create the workgroup information file. Make sure
you have specified a valid path and filename, that you have adequate
permissions to create the file, and that you have enough diskspace on the
destination drive. (-3100)". It creates a file, though...
* to join the workgroup created in the step above it says successfully
joined and then when I try to open the "User and groups accounts" I get
the same error message as above and then when I click OK it says:
"Microsoft Acccess couldn't find file 'C:\documents and settings\this
user\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System_newfile.mdw"
If I copy a workgroup file from another PC where Access is working fine,
joins that group and opens a database, it seems to open, but when I click
to open a table it just displays the message: An exclamation mark on a
yellow triangle and the text "Unknown". If I try to open the same database
in Visual Studio it works fine (no matter if I use ODBC or JET drivers).
I have tried the same steps with different users on my computer with the
same results. The problem revealed itself when Adobe Photoshop Album (PSA)
suddenly stopped working. I think PSA is using ODBC to connect to the
access database its using.
The only thing I can rememeber changing on the PC was installing
Mediaplayer 10 Tech beta, but I think PSA was working after that.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
Lars Thomas
