Workgroup file won't switch

Recently we migrated to Access 2002, I created new databases and imported the objects. DBases that had "Security" on them, I removed security first, then imported objects in new 2002 ver. then re-established a workgroup file. I created the special shortcut on my desktop to direct which workgroup file to use when opening the database (worked correctly in ver. 97). When I execute the shortcut, Access opens the database using whatever workgroup file was last used. Which I manually set to system.mdw without any databases open, but does not switch to my provrelsys.mdw when I open using special shortcut. It will use the last used .mdw file no matter what database I open, even if it doesn't have security on it. Thanks in advance...tossing ver. 2002 out the window!!

What are you putting for a shortcut?

You must include the full path to the Access executable, plus the /wrkgrp
switch.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\MSACCESS.EXE" "S:\Corporate Shared\Contracting Shared\ProviderRelations.mdb" /wrkgrp "S:\Corporate Shared\Contracting Shared\provrelsys.mdw

This is what I use, has been working for 3 yrs...don't recieve any errors and dbase opens.

Maybe you want to post your question to the access.security group; they were
very helpful with me.
Seems to me that you want to start all over. First do your workgroup (I kept
my A97 workgroup which worked fine), then redo your groups and set the
securities (if you elect not to keep your A97 workgroup file). Perhaps you
want to start the conversion all over. After some trial and error, I learned
to first compile, repair and compact my A97 database. Then I created a new
A97 database with me logged in and imported all tables Using File- Get
External Data). Because I was still joint to my a97 workgroup file, all
ownership rights etc. were fully resolved. I then opened A2002 and converted
(which worked well since I was now the owner of all, I believe even the
hidden system files). Since I had set individual securities for my users, I
started from scratch with setting up all new securities based on user groups
(not individuals). Be patient, it took me a while and much help from the
security user group. I'm not an expert, but you may want to try to keep your
A97 workgroup file and use the above procedure - first clean up in A97 and
then convert or even import into a new A2002 table. The latter requires that
you reset all of your securities.

1) You never get an error message from a workgroup problem. It always fails
silently and uses the default workgroup. Always has been that way.

2) In A2K2, I think you can change workgroups AFTER you have opened Access.
Have you tried that?

3) Does the Workgroup manager allow you to select that workgroup?

Thanks for your help..
Originally I setup the security MANUALLY...I un-did, and reran the Security Wizard. Everything seems to be working fine. Even though I go to Tools, Security, Workgroup Admin, it still says system.mdw rather than, provrelsystem.mdw. Security still work

Thanks
