After creating a database I wanted to allow various users
to work with it. I would like to do this, on the way that
everybody has got his own account and password to log in.
I created a new workgroup information file and saved it on
a network drive, but whenever I try to open the database
from a different location then mine, access is not asking
for a username or password!
Why?

You haven't created a secure copy of the database. There
are a number of steps involved in securing access and the
sequence can get complicated. your best plan is to use
the supplied wizard to create the secure database. Once
this is done, set up the user population and groups as
needed. As a final step, you must send all users a
shortcut that opens the secure database using the secure
workgroup. In your case, the security is not properly
set up and all users are using the default workgroup
installed on their local workstation. Consult the help
file for command line arguments and it will tell you the
settings needed to open with a specific workgroup
information file. Use that information to create a
suitable start-up shortcut and send it out via Email.
The users should then copy it to their desktops and use
it to start the application.
