Workgroup Information File

B

Billy

I have just recently installed Office XP on my Windows
2000 pc. I am able to start Access, but when I try to
create or edit a database, I get the following message...

"Workgroup Administrator couldn't create the workgroup
information file. Make sure that you have specified a
valid path and filename, that you have adequate
permissions to create the file, and that you have enough
disk space on the destination drive (-3100)"

....and when I click OK, it is followed by...

"Microsoft Access couldn't find the file 'rubbish here'.
This file is required for startup"

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, to no avail.
My disk has ample space (around 4GB left), and, I believe,
I have enouch permissions (my logon is a member of the
administrator group). So I have no idea what is going on,
and, as a result of this error, my development under
Access has halted.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get round this?

Never mind people. I have found the answer in the darkest
depths of these forums. Basically, for anyone else having
the same problem, the answer is: (and thanks to Matt!)

*********************************************
I had the same problem which I think may have had
something to do with Imations Disk Stakkas program Opdi
Tracker which uses an Access DB to store disc names. I
managed to grab a copy of the System.mdw of another
computer and whack it into the proper folder. I then could
open databases but could not get into any of the tables or
reports (Unknown Error). Following the steps in the
answer above didn't help too much. I did some research
and found that if I ran this nifty little command which re-
registers the Microsoft DAO 3.X or 4.X object library
every thing would be hunky dory again.

RegSvr32.Exe C:\Windows\System32\msjtes40.dll

I realise most of you smarties out there would know that
already, but dummies like me (who, might I add, spent half
a day trying to solve this) wouldn't and so I thought I'd
post my success in this topic.

Hope it helps you.

Actually no I've never heard of this "Imations Disk Stakkas program
Opdi Tracker"

Thanks for posting back. Your answer is now archived at
groups.google.com for anyone else having a similar problem in the
future.
