Do you have full access to the location? Are you logged on as
administrator?

Try saving a file, any kind, word processing will do, to the same
directory, then open it and edit it and save it, reopen it to assure it
saved the edit, then delete it. If you are successful then you likely have
all the needed access.
that worked.. so i have all the acess i need what else could it be... and is
the sysstem.mdw file installed? if so is i installed with office or is it
installed when windows xp is setup? thanks for you help. =-)

I have run out of ideas. I know you can make them, or at least Access
can make them, but I had done just that. What I have not done is taken any
direct action to make one. I fear I would be really guessing and wasting
your time if I were to try and offer any more direct advice.

Have you check out:

Your question may be answered there. It has a lot of good information
and I would highly recommend it for anyone starting out with Access user
level security. I also found a book I once had very useful, but I believe I
passed it down to one of my replacements when I retired.

Good Luck
No problem .. thanks for trying.. know a IT at my college may have to get
him involed.. Again thanks for you time.

What version of Access?

Search your computer for *.mdw (ensure that you include hidden folders in
your search).

What location(s) are they in?

The file creation/editting that Joseph asked you to try - can you do this in
the Windows\system32 folder?

How did you try to do this? If Access won't start, how can you get to the
workgroup administrator?

No there isn't. Access always uses a workgroup file. Try copying
system.mdw from another computer and put it in the windows system folder.
(by the way were you able to create a file in this folder?)

The issue you describe suggests it is a windows permission problem; perhaps
the admin user you log into windows with isn't really an administrator on
that computer.

nope making the file in /system32/ didn't work, probly will jsut end up
saving my files, bookmarks etc. and reload windows and the conponets i use ..
i'm about due for it anyway. that should start me off on a clean slate and
and take care of any issues or software problems.. =-) i hope..
