Working Off-line

I want to see the effects on my end date if some of my tasks are deleted or
if some tasks start earlier than currently planned. I was thinking of doing
this by working offline. My thought process is;

1. Save Offline
2. Open project by signing in, and choosing work offline
3. Modify as required and make some decisions

My sticking point is here. How do I proceed if I do NOT want to save those
changes?
The way I see it my project would be offline but I need the status moved to
online without actually updating the data.

Any thoughts?

Carolyn --

Using your project in Offline mode is not a method I would recommend for
your situation. Instead, I would recommend that your Project Server
administrator create a Verion in the system called something like WhatIf.
You can then open the project, click File - Save As, and then save your
project as the WhatIf version. From there, you can make any changes that
you wish without damaging the production (.Published) version of the
project. Do know, however, that you cannot save the WhatIf version in place
of the .Published version. Hope this helps.

Carolyn:

I'm going to have to disagree with my esteemed colleague on this one. I
think this should work. If you want to abandon the changes to the plan, you
would simply need to go to Project Web Access and force a checkin of the
plan and ignore the warnings. The only consequence of this that I can think
of at the moment is that you'll start accumulating offline project records
in your offline folder, which can be purged if necessary. Warning:
experiment on your development instance before you try it in production.

Thanks to both of you. I'm not sure which option I will try first although
the versionning one seems safer. BTW I purchased your book over the holidays
and since I have had no Project Server training (but have had Project
training) it has been very useful. Thanks again
