Working with consolidated server files offline

I have a requirement from my team to be able to perform what if scenarios on
consolidated files that originate from the server which are then saved to
someone's desktop.

Are there any recommendations for doing this?

All of my ideas seem like they will be pretty painful to implement. For
instance, one thought is to save the consolidated file without links back to
the server to my desktop and then re-jiggering all of the dependencies to now
map to tasks within the consolidated file. The other idea I had was to save
copies of the individual files to the desktop without links back to the
server and then re-jigger the dependencies to look for the desktop files
instead of the server files. Both sound like a drag & I'd rather come up
with something simpler and more efficient.

Any other ideas?

Michelle,

There may be several ways to accomplish what you are looking to do. Some of
the ideas may be as simple as creating a unique Enterprise Outline Code for
these projects and opening them together from within PWA based on a filter,
or creating macros to consolidate those projects into an offline master
project, or creating an OLAP extension which allows you to do some things.
There are resources available to help with each once you determine which
solution best fits your needs.

There are several considerations:
The number of project files
The number of tasks within those files
The number of resources in those files
The frequency of the what-if's

Not sure if the information helps you now but I hope so.

Thanks,

Scott,

Thanks for your input.

I know that doing this in the portfolio analyzer via PWA would make sense;
but there are several reasons why my team really wants to be able to do this
from their desktop and not via PWA or the OLAP cube.

Do you have any ideas on how to do this by downloading the files from the
server to user's desktop?

Thanks again,
Michelle
