Works 2001and Security updates

A

Andrew

Am using Microsoft Works Suite 2001 which includes Word
2000 SR-1.

When responsing to the recent notification of security
updates the screen advising 'the following updates are
available' refers to 4 updates including Office 2000
Service Pack 3 (English version.

Having selected Office 2000 Service Pack 3 and run the
installation routine I eventually receive a message 'This
update has already been applied or is included in an
update that has been applied'.

However on returning to the Microsoft update screen that
still lists the service pack 3 as not installed and will
not allow me to install the other three patches.

I switched off the anti-virus during the above. Also
curiously although I placed the OEM software disc in the
drive it seems this was not called for.

Does anyone have any suggestions. The Knowledge base has
been hopeless

Hi Andrew,

From the Help menu in Word see if you can complete
a Detect & Repair. If not then you may need to update
the MS Installer (check the version of MSIExec.exe)
or you may have deleted some of the .MSP files stored
in the \Windows Installer\ folder and may need to
reinstall Word and then update

Hi Bob

Thanks for your comments.

Are you a Mircosoft 'person' if yes that's very helpful.

I have run 'Detect and repair' without any difficulty.

The MS Installer file I have i.e. MSIExec.exe is
2.0.2600.2. I think that is the latest. Please advise?

I have not yet tried to re-install Word but will try that
if this does not help.

I am also following up the suggestion from Milly Staples
above.

The message received on the most recent attempt to update
SP3 was that all the data is downloaded but not updated.

When I presses enter again 'I could not proceed to the
next stage'

This may be off the wall but there are two main users on
this computer if the other user applied the update when
running under his password could that create any conflict
when I am running the same software under my pasword. (I
do not really understand the architecture of the software
so hence the dumb question)
