Worksheet consolidation

Does anybody know if this can be done?

I have 40+ workbooks
Each workbook has 2 worksheets
Worksheet 2 updates on the basis of entries into worksheet 1
A 'summary' worksheet updates on the basis of Worksheet 2
of all 40+ workbooks.

This is cumbersome - opening and closing each workbook once,
and maybe multiple times.

Is it possible to create 1 workbook with 1 worksheet per
previously 40+ workbooks and have each worksheet divided
into 2 parts - side by side.

I have tried to make a sample worksheet but it won't let me
copy the second worksheet beside the first.
