World - increasing size of document

Fat Doris

Am working on a large document, 145 pages of text & graphics, and each time I
work on it, even if not adding anything, just moving around or changing the
footer, the file increases vastly in size. Today it has increased from
37,000 kb to 72,000 kb with no additional text or graphics added. If I
laboriously copy and paste each document to a new document the size goes
down, but as soon as I start to edit ir increases again.

Can anyone help, please.
Thank you.

Click on Tools, Options, Save tab. Turn off Fast Save checkmark and OK out.

Fast save just saves a "list of changes" since the last full save to the end
of the original document. When you do a non-fast save, all the document
changes are "compressed" into the original document which creates a smaller
file size.

Thanks for the suggestion but Fast Save was not ticked. Allow Background
Saves is ticked, and so is Save AutoRecover Info. Could either of these be
contributing to the problem?

Hi Doris,

If you use File=>Save as and save to a new file name how much does the file size change?

In File=>Save are you using 'Word Document' as the file type?

Thanks for your response. If I save the file under another name the file
size remains the same. And yes, I save it as a Word Document.

Here are items that can bloat a file:

1) Fast Saves (Tools/Options/Save) - I believe you've ruled this one out.

2) Preview Picture (File/Properties) - Check this one first since you have
graphics in the file. If one appears on the first page and if it's saved in
the preview then this is a fairly common cause of filte bloat.

3) Versions (File/Versions) Make sure "Automatically save version on close"
is not turned on

4) Revisions (Tools/Track Changes)
Highlight Changes: Make sure "Highlight changes on screen is turned on"
Accept/Reject Changes: If "Accept All" or "Reject All" is available then
revisions are present.

5) Embedded True Type fonts (Tools/Options/Save)
