Would like to retrieve values from an external file using VLOOKUP

hi all,

Is it possible to retrieve a value from an external excel file using Excel
97 SR2?

We have created a pricing.xlt template containing VLOOKUP function that
retrieves information from an external Excel file named _bpcs_pricing.xls

Upon creating a file pricing1.xls based on the template, we would like to
save this file containing "values" retrieved from _bpcs_pricing.xls as
opposed to a dynamic link.

Any assistance in how to achieve above will be appreciated.

not possible with formulas alone. One workaround: Copy your data and
insert it with 'Edit - Paste Special - Values'

thanks for your prompt reply.

we are unsure about your suggested workaround.

since we are not copying data but typing an item code on the pricing1.xls
fileand the VLOOKUP function retrieving item description from the
_bpcs_pricing.xls external file, how can insert it with 'Edit - Past
Special - Values".

- or with VBA

No way with formulas alone
