Write protected....

After making spelling changes to a document, I try to save
changes to original floppy and get this "document is
writed protected and cannot be saved" How do I get rid of
write protection?

You should NEVER save (or open) a document directly from a floppy drive. It
is the #1 reason for corrupt and lost documents. Always save to the local
HDD first and then COPY the document to the floppy (vice versa when
opening).

I agree, but to his question, switching the write-protect tab should toggle
the protection off.

No it won't. The floppy is corrupt and doesn't look like a valid disk any
more. The error message is inaccurate. The only way to 'unlock' the floppy
is to format it again.

My point stands, regardless. In the event that the floppy *was* protected,
toggling the lock changes the status. The user may not have known this. If
the disk was write-protected, he/she would not be able to even copy the
updated document over the original stored on the floppy without knowing how
to change its status.

I agree with your advice about absolutely never saving to floppies.

i added microsoft word to my microsoft works suite and I
can't seem to get it to work properly. I am having
trouble saving any of my work to a cd-rw. Everytime I try
to save my work the message comes up: write-protected or
read-only. I teach school and I really don't want to have
to change the name and save my lesson plans everytime I
try to exit! How do I get it to let me save changes so
that the only time I create a new file is when I start a
new week?

You cannot save to a CD-R or CD-RW. You need to save to your local hard disk
and then move the files to the CD-R from Explorer.
